Microsoft Wants HTC to Create Dual-Booting Android and Windows Phone Smartphones

According to a report from Bloomberg, Microsoft is in talks with HTC about creating Dual-Booting Android and Windows Phone Smartphones, allowing HTC users the ability to choose between Android and the Windows Phone OS.
The report claims that HTC has been asked by Terry Myerson, the head of Microsoft’s operating systems unit, to add Windows Phone as an option on HTC’s Android devices. To make this happen, Microsoft will offer cheap or even free licensing fees to HTC. However, no decisions have been made, as talks between HTC and Microsoft are ongoing.

This dual-booting option is certainly an interesting suggestion, with both HTC and Microsoft is in a precarious position lately. The Taiwanese manufacturer has faced slow sales of their smartphones, and Microsoft’ Windows has faced an uphill battle with regards to adoption of their Windows Phone platform.

In the second quarter of this year, Microsoft held 3.7 percent of the mobile operating system market, according to IDC. Android held 79 percent, with Apple hauling in 13 percent of the market. Microsoft’s struggles to get users more interested in its Windows Phone platform.
